I'm really tempted to pull the trigger and get this. Plus it's from CA so no rust issues.

I've been going crazy over this 1998 XJR. But nothing pulls my heart strings quite like a manual wagon.

Do it for God and country. I had those wheels and that color on my 7, they're straight up gorgeous aren't they?!

Yes this deal is rather tempting.... Now to wake my old man up and show him what new car we need in our lives. Come on it's a RWD E39 Wagon. Nobody can resist it's ways. Seriously I'm gonna show him when he wakes up and see what he says.

Best of luck to you, I hope he's on board with it. I nearly bought one from the previous generation in equally great shape with 140k on it; I just couldn't justify it over my red GMC shortbed.

Everybody's been going nuts over E39s lately. I mean they're great cars! I drive one. But I feel like there's always a flavor of the week, and right now it's E39. I guess I shouldn't complain.

I'm getting a pick up after winter is over. I missed out on the low prices during this past summer and early fall. Now all of the good quality one's have skyrocketed due to impending snow.

I've always like the design. Used to work at a BMW dealership and had plenty of time to "exercise" them. I also love the E34s but the E39 got it just right. Honestly I'm glad they had the post about the 540i this week. It was the only way I could convince my dad that an E39 M5 would not be in his best interest if he wanted something reliable, clean looks and a decent performer as well.

You want to hear the saddest story? So I got my E39 from my dad. It was his DD for years and he loved it. But when he first bought it he test drove two cars: a 540i with a manual, and a 528i with a slushbox. He went with the latter because price and the 540i would result in too many speeding tickets. Now I've loved the car to death, and you could make arguments that the 528 is just as good as the 540 because steering and balance, but I can't handle the slushbox. It doesn't have a sport mode or any other shift-it-yourself option. Also BMW sticks have a fantastic feel, as I'm sure you already know.

Man that is tragic. I'm looking for a reasonably priced 540i but ever since that article prices have seem to risen lol. Funny thing, I was just looking at an older Subaru Legacy wagon. Almost started leaning that way but I remembered people always mentioning that their motors seemed to have issues. Glad I read because the head gasket is pretty much guaranteed to go at or around 150k. That's a big no no in my book. Who would have thought that a BMW was more reliable than a Subaru.

his seat looks exactly like mine (tan but blue from jeans) and the emblems are peeling like mine. Nice find though I'd go for it.

Head gasket is no fun on a boxer too. Well it's no fun on any engine. But especially a boxer.
